The Movie Project

I decided to do my favorite movies for this week's Thursday 13. This led to quite a little project in categorizing and prioritizing movies, and to the discovery that my favorite movie list is quite long. On Thursday, I will announce my top 13, but here are the top contenders in each category.

Keep in mind...
* I could only count movies I've seen, and the movies that live in our home (and thus could remind me of their existence) had a much better shot of making one of the lists.
* Once I included a movie in a list, it was disqualified from other lists.
* While some of these are Great Movies, most are simply my personal favorites, the movies I enjoy watching again and again. No pretentions here.

If you think I missed something, put it in the comments and I'll consider it for my top 13 on Thursday.

Our tastes in movies must run in the family. One sci-fi you missed was "The Fifth Element".

O' Brother Where Art Thou and Shawshank Redemption would top my list of going out of the way to watch. Any time a John Wayne or Humphrey Bogart movie comes on I'll watch it (even though I have most of Bogey's movies on DVD). I also have the Sherlock Holmes collection.

For romantic comedies give me Meg Ryan - French Kiss, Sleepless, etc.

Ooh, ooh, what about Muriel's Wedding? or Priscilla Queen of the Desert? I like a little down under in my comedies with heart section.

Yeah, Fifth Element is pretty good, too.

Schuyler, I'll have to put those into my Netflix queue. My Aussie filmwatching habits are underdeveloped, sad to say.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert was a hoot.

First, I'll second the addition of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! (You have plenty of time b4 Thursday!)

I humbly (yeah, right) submit these titles for your consideration:
Fargo
Much Ado About Nothing
A Christmas Story
The Natural
Lonesome Dove
Like Water For Chocolate
The Color Purple
The Big Chill
Thelma and Louise
Toy Story
Serenity

Do you want butter on your popcorn?

Fargo - This was a great movie, no argument. But it's just so unpleasant, I might never watch it again. To make my list, a movie has to invite repeat viewings.

Much Ado About Nothing - Saw it once, liked it. The end.

A Christmas Story - Now, I like this movie, but I am not passionate about it the way a lot of people are.

The Natural - Loved it when it came out, but nowadays it seems kind of cheesy.

Lonesome Dove - Ick.

Like Water For Chocolate - The book was better.

The Color Purple - Never seen it.

The Big Chill - Oops. A definite omission. But it wouldn't have made the top 13.

Thelma and Louise - Didn't like it, except Brad was beautiful.

Toy Story - This was a contender but didn't make my short list.

Serenity - Okay, this one was tough. I couldn't be objective about this movie, because I was (am) so in love with Firefly. That being the case, the things that happen in the movie are just too painful.

I'm feeling a little sluggish and under the weather this week. I think I'll just go down your movie list and start watching.

Loved your TT movie list, wrote down *several* I haven't seen. Love-Love-Love Love Actually, though. Love It. Love. Love-Love.

Love.
